Gay marriage

Okay, yesterday I watched Hart Aber Fair because they were discussing gay rights and this one politician actually viewed homosexual partnerships as a threat to the nation. Because “the future of our country lies in the hands of our families”, apparently. I don’t get how homosexual partnerships are a threat to that, though? And another one said homosexuality was against nature because only a woman and a man could make children and of course he also used the religion-argument (homosexuality is against the bible, the bible says so, so it has to be true). Aaaaand of course homosexuals are bad parents and not good for children and they don’t have the responsibility that “comes with sexuality”. Uhm. Okay. Wtf.
Oh, and then he added heterosexuality was about “creation” and it was something really “precious” where the partners complemented each other.  Also, homosexual marriage apparently “discriminates against heterosexual marriage”. Aha.
So, today I told my mom what the guy had said about homosexual partnerships and she said “I don’t even know why you care about shit like that”.
Why? Why do I care about this? I care about this for several reasons:
I’m not gay but this isn’t just about homosexual people, it’s about human rights! Why do people care if black people are discriminated against or jewish people? Because they’re black or jewish themselves? Do you have to be black or jewish to get angry when they’re discriminated against? No, the only thing you have to be is a human who respects other humans and the rights they have or should have because you understand that no human being is worth less than any other human being. No one ever is not important and no one ever isn’t worth anything and you can understand this without being discriminated against.
I honestly don’t understand why we should be satisfied as long as we ourselves aren’t discriminated against and I don’t understand why we should stop caring.
